The Jewish Community Against Sex Trafficking (JCAST) Chicago is partnering with DePaul University, College of Law’s Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center, and attorney Helen Tarokic of Helen Tarokic Law PLLC of Wilmington, NC to offer this unique program. We are excited to welcome speakers from Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, Department of Labor, Lifespan, and Catholic Multicultural Center (Madison, WI). Saturday, 5/4/19 10AM -12PM JCAST is partnering with Links, a national African American women’s service organization, to plan an author event with Pamela Samuels Young. Ms. Young was a corporate lawyer before becoming a full-time author. One of her suspense book’s plot is on sex trafficking. We are thrilled to elevate our work to an expanded audience with this partnership. Location: Evanston High School
Monday, 4/15/19 11:30-1PM The Jewish Community Against Sex Trafficking (JCAST) Chicago is excited to reach out to members of the Highland Park Rotary. The conversation will start at 11:30 AM with a delicious buffet lunch and will include a presentation by JCAST volunteer leaders and staff with plenty of time for questions before it ends at 1:00 PM. Given Rotary’s strong dedication to “service above self” and humanitarian efforts locally and across the globe as well as past partnerships with other local organizations creating social change and combating gender based violence, JCAST knows this conversation will educate and engage. Saturday, 4/4/19 10AM Join JCAST, The Links, Incorporated, NCJW and others for an amazing community-wide forum in Evanston featuring attorney, author and anti-trafficking advocate Pamela Samuels Young. For fifteen years, Pamela served as Managing Counsel for Toyota in Southern California, specializing in labor and employment law. While still practicing law, Pamela began moonlighting as a mystery writer because of her desire to see women and people of color depicted in the legal thrillers she read.
Her thriller Anybody’s Daughter (2013), a gripping tale of a teen unwittingly drawn into the world of child sex trafficking via a Facebook scam, won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Fiction and was a Top Ten pick by In the Margins, the best books for at-risk teens. A frequent speaker on the topics of self-empowerment, sex trafficking and online safety, fiction writing, and pursuing your passion. Location: Evanston
Wednesday, 2/27/19 6PM – 8:30PM JCAST Staff and Attorney, Gayle Nelson is on the panel for the upcoming: February 27th Program: “Combating Human Trafficking: Using Tech to End Modern Day Slavery”This free innovative program is being done in collaboration with the Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women, PyLadies Chicago, and UN Women Chicago and will take place on 2/27 from 6pm-8:30pm in Microsoft’s Office (Aon Center). The panel discussion is on legal and technical strategies employed against human trafficking with the goal of bringing together technologists, researchers, and legal experts to brainstorm what we can do to stop modern day slavery.
